Phyna Is The Winner Of Big Brother Naija Level Up Edition!

Josephine Otabor, also known as Phyna, has emerged winner of the seventh season of Big Brother Naija Level Up after polling a total of 40.74 per cent of the votes in the final week. The show’s host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, announced the winner at this season’s grand finale on Sunday, October 2, 2022.

The native of Edo State beat 23 other housemates to clinch the prize after an intensely competitive 72 days. This is the second time a female housemate will against all odds, be declared the winner of Big Brother Naija.

For the second time in the show’s history, the finale featured a top six instead of a top five. Bryann was the first runner-up with 26.74 per cent of the votes. Bella came in third place after polling 15.78 per cent of the votes. Others in the top six include Adekunle, who gathered 12.36 per cent of the votes and came in fourth, Chi Chi who came fifth with 2.49 per cent, and Daniella finished sixth with 1.89 per cent.

Phyna joins Whitemoney, Laycon, Mercy, Miracle, Efe and Katung in the highly coveted list of BBNaija winners. Like the previous winners, Phyna will no doubt leverage the opportunity the BBNaija platform is offering for her career.

The seventh edition of the BBNaija franchise will go down in history as the most successful iteration yet, having recorded over a billion votes, over 40,000 auditions and broken social media engagement records. The innovative changes to the show and twists that occurred from the beginning helped keep things exciting. It also had viewers on their toes and constantly trying to figure out Big Brother’s next move. The success of this edition is particularly remarkable, considering fans didn’t have the usual SMS voting platforms to vote with this year.

The grand finale which aired live on DStv 198 and GOtv 29 at 7 pm featured live performances by Nigerian superstars M.I Abaga, Falz, and Pheelz. A highlight of the night was a surprise diary session with Ebuka and Biggie. His session was followed shortly by a performance from M.I. Following Daniella’s and Chi Chi’s eviction, Falz thrilled the audience with his hit song, Bop Daddy and Highway.

Pheelz closed the night of performances with his award-winning songs Finesse and Electricity.

The ₦100 Million grand prize for this season’s winner is the largest yet, with a ₦50 Million cash gift and a brand new Innoson G5T from Innoson Motors. Other prizes include one bitcoin from Quidax, a Dubai trip for two courtesy TravelBeta, a brand new Camon 19 from Tecno and electronics from Nexus. To make things more interesting, Pepsi would gift the winner 1 year supply of Pepsi products, while Waw detergent, Munch It, Unik and Dano would supply packs of their products.

CHI CHI WINS PENAULTIMATE HOH

Chi Chi

It wasn’t business as usual in the games arena as Big Brother announced the stakes involved in the ninth Head of House games. According to Biggie, the winner of the penultimate Head of House games would not only be declared the new HOH with a Showmax movie reward and exclusive right to the HOH bedroom but also secure an automatic slot in the finale.

To make things more interesting, the winner would have supreme veto power, which allows them to pick two other housemates for a place in the finale.

Biggie had the housemates, except for incumbent HOH, Phyna, play a unique game of see-saw beans to win the much-coveted title and benefits. The game was specially crafted with a shallow container shaped like the Big Brother eye on the end of a beam and a basin with five plastic balls at the other end.

The challenge was to transfer a ball from the basin and place it carefully in the shallow bin on the other end. The participants could only move one ball at a time and were not allowed to use their hands to touch any part of the beam except the starting end. If a ball drops or falls out of the shallow container, it must be returned to the starting container.

Allotted 15 minutes, the first housemate to successfully move all five balls to the shallow container and return to the starting point would be declared the winner and new Head of House. If none of the participants completes the task, the housemate with the most balls in the shallow bin would win the game.

After a few minutes and evident frustration from all participants, Chi Chi successfully moved all five balls to the shallow end, signified her completion, and was declared the new Head of House and super veto power holder. On the other end, Daniella was declared the new Tail of House.

In a surprising turn of events, Biggie announced that the remaining housemates would pitch themselves to the new HOH and hope she would choose them to fill the space.

After 90 seconds of each housemate pitching reasons they should be selected, Chi Chi decided to pick Phyna and Daniella, giving them an automatic pass to the finale.

The rest of the housemates, Adekunle, Groovy, Chizzy, Rachel, Bella, Sheggz and Hermes, automatically win spots on the eviction list, and their chances of winning a slot in the finals depend solely on their fans and voters.

Ilebaye And Khalid Exit BBNaija Level Up In Second Eviction Night

The second eviction night of Big Brother Naija ‘Level Up’ opened with a montage of the housemates nominated for eviction. Like last week, the tension was high among Level two housemates as five of them, Groovy, Bryann, Khalid, Ilebaye, and Phyna were nominated for eviction, and it was certain that at least one of them would be leaving the house.

Before announcing the evicted housemates, the audience was taken through the week’s recap, covering the Head of House and Wager games, Modella and Khalid's birthday, ego clashes, and fights for ships.

Ebuka also had a chat with housemates from both levels. For Level 1 housemates, he asked Adekunle about his discussion about the possibility of Sheggz using his relationship with Bella as a strategy to win. Sheggz, on the other hand, shared that he doubts Adekunle’s vibe and genuinity

The host also asked Allysyn about the current state of her relationship with Adekunle, and she shared that she was initially confused, but she’s now clear about them being just friends
For level 2 housemates, the media personality asked Bryann about his strained relationship with Ilebaye and about Daniella’s doubt about Khalid’s intention and using her as a strategy to win.

Co-host, Miz Vick, had a chat with some members of the live audience asking who they felt might be going home in the night’s eviction. Two of the audience members predicted that Ilebaye might be the next evicted housemate.

Like the previous eviction nights, the audience was treated to a live performance from another reigning artist, Crayon, who performed two of the hottest songs in the country right now, Overdose and Ijo (Labalaba).

After a round of breaks and palpable tension, Ebuka announced Ilebaye as the third evicted housemate of the season, and this was followed closely by the announcement of Khalid as the next housemate to leave the show

For Khalid, he plans to continue his business after the show. He shared that he plans to leverage the visibility he got from the show to grow his business. As a side note, he told the audience that his relationship with Daniella is serious. Sadly, Ilebaye wasn’t available to share her plans

Following Ilebaye and Khalid’s eviction, the total number of housemates that have left Level 1 is five, with four evictions and one disqualification.

The Next Wager Task Will Be Fire: Here’s Why

Big Brother Naija Level Up has been anything but predictable this season with different houses, different levels, and a weekly abundance of twists. Only about two weeks into the 72-day-long season, the housemates have surpassed expectations and awakened an excited buzz across social media among viewers.

During the first wager task, just 24 hours after a previous twist concerning parties and winning HOH games, Biggie landed viewers and housemates one more surprise. He announced that the housemates in the different levels would have to compete against each other to decide which house gets to earn pocket Naira for weekly shopping.

The level 1 housemates, whom netizens have nicknamed Islanders, lost badly to the Level 2housemates (nicknamed mainlanders). This loss started several small arguments and fights in the Level 1 house but also awakened a fire in them to win. They won the second wager and retained a winning streak until they lost the Knorr task to Level 2.

Both teams now know for a fact that they have a lot riding on whether or not they win the third wager task this Friday. It will determine their week and whether or not they’ll have enough to live their best lives until the next wager task. All these paint a clear picture of what the next wager on Friday will look like, and the painting is FIRE. Here’s why:

1. The housemates now understand Big Brother’s game a little better (or do they?):

After playing the game and living in Big Brother’s house for two weeks, the housemates are familiar with the game’s rules. Even though Big brother can change those rules as he wills, they now have more of a sense of what the game is about, especially since there is always a reward/punishment for losing.

2. The wins, losses, and crossed ships have created a little rivalry among both camps:

Over the past few days, both levels have lost to each other. Level 2 has lost three HOH games, the right to nominate twice, and several branded tasks. Level 1 has lost one wager task, Pocket Naira, and the Showmax and Knorr task. They have also struck up affection with housemates on other levels. All these seemingly minor issues have morphed together to build irritation about one another and created an intense atmosphere of rivalry.

3. No Level wants to go hungry for a week:

After both losing the first two wager tasks of the season (Level 1 in week 1 and Level 2 in week 2),  the housemates are understandably feeling very competitive. Their disappointment in their performance has caused them to fight, regroup, hate on, and strategize, forcing them to focus on the task this week. The last thing they want is to go hungry for another week while the other Level claims another victory. Whoever wins the wager task this week will bring the tally to ‘2-1’, and neither of the houses wants to be on the losing side.

4. Both Levels are over-competitive and would do everything to win:

Even though each level has won a wager task, neither is showing any signs of slowing down this week. The season is filled with super-competitive people who hate losing. Fans expect each level to bring a great show again this Friday, and they won’t disappoint them.

5. The housemates realize they cannot predict Big Brother’s game, and the losers this week may be in more significant trouble than the losers last week:

The housemates have been trying to unravel Biggie’s game plan for the past few days, and they’ve been met with new twists at every turn. Even though they are nowhere close to genuinely understanding Biggie’s plan for the season, they seem to have some clear understanding about a few things. One of those includes that there’s always a punishment for losing, and Biggie can always change what it is.

None of the house levels wants to be at the receiving end of Biggie’s wrath, so they will work hard to win. What this means for viewers is that they will get to enjoy premium entertainment from the actual task. Above that, they’ll see the housemates work hard at perfecting their acts, and if the task is anything like last week’s was, learn some new things.

However, now that the pressure is on, it will mean that there will be more fights, make up and seeking comfort in the safety of ships. The show is about to get more interesting, and the wager task is at the centre. Once again, it’s a man-eat-man world, and only the fittest will survive. Catch the wager task on DStv channel 198 and GOtv channel 29 every Friday at 9 pm.
